On 29 June 2017 the UN Security Council passed Resolution 2363 on Sudan and South Sudan. Resolution 2363 emphasizes the government of Sudan’s primary responsibility to protect civilians within its territory, including from crimes against humanity and war crimes. The resolution also extends the mandate of the UN peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) until 20 June 2018 and cites a new focus on the Jebel Marra area. The resolution also reduces the troop ceiling to 11,395 and the police ceiling to 2,888.
