Resolution 2254 (Syria) S/RES/2254

On 18 December 2015 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2254 on the situation in Syria. Resolution 2254 endorses the efforts of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) to facilitate a political solution to the conflict under the supervision of the UN, including working towards a nationwide ceasefire and the holding of free and fair elections within 18 months. The resolution also recalls that “the primary responsibility to protect its population lies with the Syrian authorities.”
